Virtual Therapy
Licensed in both states, available by secure video anywhere in either one.
The people who most need this kind of therapy are often the least able to drive to it. You're in the middle of a treatment cycle. You have a six-week-old. You're an hour outside the metro and the nearest perinatal specialist is in another county. You work nights.
Virtual sessions remove the drive, the parking and the childcare, which for a lot of people is the difference between having therapy and meaning to.
I'm licensed as a Professional Counselor in Missouri and a Clinical Professional Counselor in Kansas, so I can see you anywhere in either state.
Everything I offer is available virtually
Virtual therapy here isn't a reduced version of the service. The full range is available by video:
EMDR therapy — bilateral stimulation works over video
Third-party reproduction counseling including the written summary report for your clinic
Missouri — anywhere in the state. Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Independence, Blue Springs, Columbia, Springfield, St. Louis, and every small town in between.
Kansas — anywhere in the state. Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood, Lawrence, Topeka, Wichita.
What matters legally is where you are sitting during the session, not where you live on paper. If you're a Missouri resident temporarily in another state, tell me and we'll work out whether we can meet while you're there.
This matters more in perinatal care than most specialties
Perinatal mental health providers cluster in metros. If you live outside one, the nearest therapist with genuine training in infertility, birth trauma or perinatal loss may be a two-hour round trip — and the entire point of the appointment is that you're already depleted.
Virtual access changes who can get specialist care rather than general care. That's the real argument for it.
It also solves specific, ordinary problems. A newborn who won't be left. A monitoring appointment at 7 a.m. that makes an afternoon drive impossible. A hospital shift pattern that rotates every month. Bed rest.
Babies are welcome on camera, as is feeding during the session, pacing with a baby on your shoulder, or having the appointment with your eyes closed because the light is too much today.
Where I can see you
How it works
Sessions are on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You get a link — no software to install and no account to create.
You'll need a private-enough space and a reasonable connection. Private enough is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and I know it. People have sessions from a parked car, a spare room with headphones in, or a walk-in closet, and none of that is unusual. We'll find something that works for you.
If the connection drops, we switch to phone and carry on.
Does virtual therapy actually work as well?
For most of what I treat, yes. The research on video therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma and perinatal mental health consistently finds outcomes comparable to in-person work.
A few honest caveats. EMDR translates well to video but can feel harder to get into an initial groove. Couples work needs both of you on a screen where you can see each other properly, which is worth arranging before the session rather than during it. And if being at home is what's hardest for you, in-person may genuinely suit you better — that's worth discussing during the consultation call.
If in-person would serve you better, we can be flexible. Some clients prefer a hybrid of in-person and virtual. There’s no wrong choice.

Questions about virtual therapy
-
Tell me where you'll be and I'll check. Counseling licences are state-based and tied to where you are during the session, so it depends on the state you're in that day.
-
More common than you'd think. Headphones help a great deal, cars are a legitimate therapy office, and if there's genuinely nowhere, we can work out timing around when the house is empty or you might be able to step away or outside.
-
Yes, on camera or off. Feed, move, soothe them — none of it is a problem, and none of it needs apologizing for.
-
Yes. Bilateral stimulation can be delivered on screen and virtual EMDR is well established.
-
Yes, as long as you're both in Missouri or Kansas. Ideally on one screen where I can see you both, though separate devices can work if you're not in the same place.
-
I'm out of network for both virtual and in-person work. I can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement — more on the [out-of-network and superbills](/superbill-for-therapy) page.

A secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You'll get a link before your session with nothing to download.
